NOAA Fisheries Gets Fisherman’s Perspective on Electronic Reporting

In a two-part interview with Rick Bellavance, a NEFMC member and charter fisherman, NOAA fisheries highlights the benefits of electronic reporting and monitoring and the need for integrated reporting.

ACCSP is currently working on integrated reporting with our partners through the SAFIS Redesign, which will increase the flexibility of the SAFIS applications, a One Stop Reporting project funded by the Fisheries Information System Program, and other regional projects. Rick Bellavance has participated in ACCSP committees and projects for a number of years.

In 2014, Rick Bellavance was Chair of the ACCSP Advisory Committee had this to say about his work with that group.

“Working in conjunction with dedicated industry representatives from other states along the East Coast in an effort to improve fisheries-dependent data collection is both fun and rewarding.”

The ACCSP released SAFIS eTRIPS/mobile v2.0 in 2019. SAFIS eTRIPS/mobile v2.0 is a handheld electronic reporting system that allows captains to capture their catch and effort data while at sea, independent of a full-time internet connection. The application is available on Android and Apple tablets and phones, and Windows 10.

SAFIS eTRIPS/mobile makes electronic vessel trip reports more convenient for users like Bellavance.

“It’s easy to use and I can complete my vessel trip report before I even get off the boat.”
